The 3R-Center Tübingen team is delighted to announce that Peter Loskill and Silke Riegger have been honored with the Ursula M. Händel Animal Welfare Prize by the German Research Foundation (DFG, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) for their outstanding work at the 3R-Center Tübingen. This prestigious award, the most highly endowed research prize of its kind in Germany, recognizes their profound contributions to advancing humane research practices.
The jury not only commends their development, application, and dissemination of Organ-on-Chip models for various organ systems as humane alternatives to animal testing, but also acknowledges their efforts in standardization and validation of these models. These initiatives play a vital role in fostering acceptance for these innovative systems and ensuring their widespread adoption.
We are particularly gratified by the recognition of our commitment to science communication, youth development, and networking to facilitate knowledge transfer for informed decision-making. We hope that our efforts will serve as an inspiration to our peers in the research community.
We express our gratitude to all the members of the jury for this remarkable recognition. With the support of this prize money, we are committed to continuing our efforts to enhance and promote animal welfare in research, in accordance with the 3R principle.
