Project KB01: 3D vascularized human adipose tissue model containing immune cells
Project description
Ourgrouphasextensive knowledgeon adipose-derivedstromalcellsforcell-basedtherapies. Extendingon thisexpertise, theaimof thisprojectistodevelopa physiologicalin vitro 3-dimensional (3D) vascularizedhuman adiposetissuemodelcontainingimmune cellsasa toolfor(immune) diseasemodeling. Increasingdataindicatethatmultiple changesin theinnateimmune systemarekeycontributorstoinflammationin obeseadiposetissue. Basedon cellsisolatedfrom theadiposetissuestromalvascularfraction, spheroids, organoidsand bioprinted3D constructswill beestablishedcapableof maintainingadipose-resident immune cellsubsets. A specificfocuswill beon enablingthemodeltostudythespecificcontributionof innateimmune cells, e.g. regulatoryT cells, innatelymphoid cellsand macrophagesand tousethistoestablishnoveltherapeuticinterventions.

Applicants profile
The successfulcandidateholdsa Master degreein biosciences, biotechnology, orsimilarand hasa strong interestin cellbiologyand immunology. Sound workethicsand thewill todrivetheprojectin a cooperativeteameffortaremandatory. Experience withadiposetissue, stem/stromal, endothelialand immune cellculturein 2D and 3D, flowcytometry, confocalmicroscopy, advancedimageanalysis, and a propensityfortechnologicalsolutions, including3D-(bio) printingarean asset.
Provision
Scholarships are comprised of a monthly stipend of € 1,500. The scholarships are awarded for up to three years, commencing as of March 2023.
