Science Retreat in Sibratsgfäll

In the end of September, the µOrganoLab and the 3R-Center Tübingen team came together in the peaceful alpine surroundings of Sibratsgfäll for their annual Science Retreat – three inspiring days dedicated to scientific exchange, personal growth, and team spirit.

In a series of intensive scientific sessions, the team members took a deep dive into key research areas including Microscopy, Staining & Image Analysis; Endothelial Cells; Microfabrication; Documentation; Effluent Analysis; Perfusion Concepts; and Oxygen Modelling. Together, we explored where the µOrganoLab currently stands in these fields, the challenges we are facing, and the potential that still awaits to be unlocked.
Through open discussion and collaborative thinking, we identified concrete steps on how we can advance our shared goal to recapitulate human biology in vitro with novel Organ-on-Chip systems and to develop, generate, and employ microphysiological tissue models for biomedical and pharmaceutical research.

Between the scientific sessions, we made space for social and reflective activities – from scenic mountain hikes, yoga and pilates sessions, to team-building exercises and soft-skill workshops on communication. These moments allowed us to clear our minds, strengthen our bonds, and foster both professional and personal development.

Growing Together Beyond Research

Of course, fun and togetherness were also an essential part of the retreat. Evenings were spent cooking, grilling, playing games, and simply enjoying time together – letting research rest for a moment and focusing on the people behind the science.

We returned from Sibratsgfäll with fresh motivation, new ideas, and an even stronger sense of community, ready to continue shaping the future of  biomedical research.
