#Talking3RScience: A mesh microelectrode array platform for electrophysiology and impedance assays in spheroid and organoid models

24. September @ 17:00 - 18:00
Have you ever wondered how electrical activity can be recorded in three-dimensional in vitro models such as spheroids and organoids?
Electrophysiological interfacing in these models remains challenging. To address this, we present a mesh microelectrode array platform specifically designed for spheroid and tissue integration and demonstrate its capabilities in hiPSC-derived neural spheroids. Using longitudinal recordings, pharmacological modulation, and impedance measurements, we evaluated the platform in neural spheroids. Cells progressively enveloped native polyimide meshes, embedding the electrodes within the tissue, while laminin functionalization promoted cell outgrowth and migration.
In this talk, Dr. Peter Jones from NMI in Reutlingen will present the mesh microelectrode array platform and its evaluation in hiPSC-derived neural spheroids. The presentation will highlight how the platform supports tissue integration and discuss its design for reliability and ease of use, as well as its versatility for the functional characterization of spheroid, organoid, and engineered tissue models.
The #Talking3RScience webinar series is an initiative of the 3R-Network Baden-Württemberg, and the 3R-Center Tübingen is delighted to co-host this event and welcome Dr. Jones for this presentation. Please note that this webinar will be held in English.
