11th World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences (WC11)

The overall theme of the scientific program is “3Rs in transition: from development to application”. The selection of the topic was inspired by the observation that in the last decade enormous progress has been made in a wide range of technologies (stem cells, organ-on-a-chip, genomics, microengineering, …), all contributing to the realization of non-animal models at the highest level and raising scientific research in the field of 3Rs (Peplacement, Reduction, Refinement of animal experiments) and in particular replacement to an unprecedented level, while the uptake of such new generation models in the different application fields is still quite low. This apparent discrepancy will be explored, not only in the area of chemical safety testing, but also in the development of vaccines and, of course, in the creation of relevant models for human disease during the Congress.
