The Berlin Institute of Health (BIH) at Charité is hosting the Preclinical Rethinking webinar series, addressing key challenges in translating preclinical findings into successful clinical applications.

Context

One of the biggest challenges in biomedical research is the low success rate of translating promising preclinical results into effective clinical treatments. Preclinical studies aim to develop potential therapies and assess their efficacy and safety through in vitro and in vivo testing. Despite encouraging findings, most treatments fail in human clinical trials.

Overview

As part of the DECIDE-II projects, this webinar series presents strategies to enhance the robustness and efficiency of preclinical studies, improving their transferability to clinical research. Nine renowned experts will cover a wide range of topics in seven sessions, including pre-registration procedures, preclinical models for personalized medicine, and the evolving regulatory landscape.

In the second webinar, Prof. Peter Loskill, Head of the 3R-Center Tübingen, will present innovative New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), with a special focus on microphysiological systems. Drawing on his extensive experience in Organ-on-Chip research, he will demonstrate how these technologies can improve the translation of preclinical research into clinical trials, reduce reliance on animal testing, and enhance the efficiency of drug development.

Target Audience & Registration

The webinar series is designed for students, PhD candidates, and researchers interested in preclinical research. It offers a valuable opportunity for those looking to learn more about the future of biomedical research and its potential impact on clinical treatments.
